Greatspace have been appointed to provide an extension scheme to add living spaces, a kitchen, and more accommodation to an existing cottage in the Lake District National Park.
The scheme is compromised of two distinct massing volumes. The first volume located to the side of the property creates a new living, dining, and kitchen space that has an attached boot room to the rear. The second volume located to the rear of the property contains a ‘bunk’ room for extra accommodation.
Hard landscaping to the rear brings more resolve to existing routes and access to the property and creates harmonious linking between the two massing volumes.
The fenestration aims to give the best possible views out, as the front of the property overlooks a lake and the rear looks onto a mountain. As such glazing has been chosen on particular parts of the scheme to capture these spectacular views.
The overall scheme and massing is to create a subservient structure to the existing building whilst drawing inspiration from the local vernacular.
